Leptin Supplement Scam (Do NOT Fall For This)
Why “Leptin Supplements” Are a Scam (and What Actually Works)
As a fitness business owner, I am constantly approached by different brands trying to pitch this or that, and oftentimes, it's a total scam. I will never forget the most surprising supplement someone tried to sell me in the first year of owning Heroes Fitness. This was back when we were in Riverview. The metal building was located on 301 and Lake St. Charles, the walls were boring white, and every now and then, you'd see a little rat friend running around the rafters. It certainly wasn't the most fun time in my life.
I heard the door open, and my eyes lit up with excitement. A new person to help! Let's see what this new prospect's needs are. He walks in with a tube. To my total surprise, he was trying to sell me a topical HGH. I was appalled, especially considering that HGH is not legal over-the-counter.
Even better, it was an MLM. You would think that would be the worst offer ever, but I can top that.
There once was a fitness "influencer" who was eager to call me to tell me about a magic supplement that was helping people lose weight at rapid rates. Now, I am adverse to any supplement promoting magic results, and honestly supplements in general. But I am a curious person, and would at least like to hear this person out.
He begins to tell me the main reason people struggle to lose weight is due to "leptin resistance", and this new supplement can solve this problem for a measly $89 per month (I hope you can hear my sarcasm through the screen). He EVEN included a study backing his claims.
Now, I'm no expert at reading literature, but this study was clearly doctored, and was later retracted. You can read more about it here: Retraction Watch: Leptin Paper Retracted.
This was years ago - so why am I bringing this up now?
As I scroll through my Facebook feed, I'm seeing ads for the same product, sold by a different brand. They use healthy people who talk about how they struggled with hunger and realized they were resistant to leptin.
The Reality About Leptin
Leptin is a real hormone produced by your fat cells, and yes, it plays a role in hunger and metabolism. But here’s the truth: you cannot buy leptin in a supplement form and magically fix your weight. If someone claims you can, that is a scam.
Instead of chasing magic pills, the evidence-backed approach is simple (and sustainable):
- Strength training: Building muscle helps regulate hormones, burn more energy, and preserve your metabolism.
- Consistent nutrition: Eating a balanced diet, tracking your calories, and hitting your protein targets will do far more than any supplement.
- Smart calorie management: Understand your daily energy needs. Tools like our TDEE & Macro Calculator make this easy.
Bottom Line
If a supplement promises magic weight loss by “fixing leptin resistance,” it’s not backed by credible science. Focus on the fundamentals — strength, diet, and consistency. That’s how results happen, not through shortcuts or expensive powders.
